EMRA Changes for 2011

For 2011 the EMRA has made a few exciting changes. The first of the new changes is the addition of a race called the "Fast 25"; this will be a non-championship race for cash. This race will happen in the morning to give the racers with big bikes another race to run in. Being a non-championship race means that you will need to qualify for this race every round if you want to compete which should add some excitement. Below are the rules for this race:

5.15 Fast 25

· Open to all Intermediate and Expert racers.
· Motorcycle must meet Open Superbike technical requirements.
· Entrants will be restricted to the fastest 25 racers from the Saturday (or Friday) Practice day as recorded by the EMRA timing system.
· Gridding will be determined by laptimes (as recorded by the club timing system) the fastest lap time will be gridded first and so on.
· If there are more than 25 entries then those that qualify 26th or lower will not race but they will have their entry fee refunded.
· This is a non-championship race. (no points awarded)
· There is a cash payout to the top three finishers based on a percentage of the “Fast 25” entrance money. The payout schedule is as follows: approximately 50% to first place, 30% to second place and 20% to third place. (For example: 20 entries X $20 entrance fee = $400 total purse, first would get $200, second would get $120, third would get $80.) The more racers in the race, the more prize money there will be.

The second change for 2011 is the introduction of a club champion, which will be differentiated from the Expert #1 by different coloured number plates. This is something that was started in Calgary a couple of years ago and seems like a good way to get more entries in the smaller classes. The rules for this Championship are below:

· This year (2011) the EMRA is introducing the Overall Club Champion. The Club Champion is the racer who accumulates the highest point total combined from all classes in one season. The rider may use more than one motorcycle to enter different classes. The Overall Club Champion may use a white #1 on a blue background number plate until the following racing season ends and a new Champion is declared.

*The Black #1 is still reserved for the Expert Superbike Champion.

We are also adjusting the schedule slightly so that all racing will occur on one race day.

The only change to our existing rules was the deletion of the quick-shifter rule which was voted on by racers and passed. Quick shifters will be allowed in all EMRA classes for 2011.

The endurance race will continue for 2011, this time on a regular weekend.

Hopefully these changes will make our 2011 season even better than last years!

See you at the track.

Exciting changes indeed! Hopefully we can fill the grid to 25 every round, and the overall champ is a cool idea. Hats off to the club exec for moving the club in these new directions. :)

Very Exciting news for the EMRA.

I agree. Being able to race with the Black number experts give lots of incentive to go hard, but it also keeps my talent level in perspective. My goal this season will be to race in this group at some point!

Someone turn up the heat and melt the snow!
